Today marks a divine day for SMITE 2 fans as Hi-Rez Studios begins 24/7 closed alpha testing for the upcoming MOBA sequel. Everyone who pre-ordered the game and those who were lucky enough to be selected from the pool of alpha applicants can now dive right into the epic battleground of the gods for round-the-clock testing.

Hi-Rez also ramps up the action with new features and two new playable characters: Mordred and Jing Wei, bringing the roster up to a total of 23 playable gods.

The dark knight Mordred, Breaker of the Round Table, is the newest addition to the Arthurian pantheon, offering a unique dual-wield combat style with one sword focused on Strength and the other on Intelligence. Jing Wei, on the other hand, is a versatile shooter inspired by the Chinese myth of a princess who was reborn as a bird. She excels at sniping enemies from afar and quickly returning to the fray after falling in battle.

In addition to the two new gods, the closed alpha build features a revamped matchmaking system that promises a fairer and more balanced experience. Players also gain access to God progression and Ascension Passes, allowing them to unlock exclusive cosmetics and rewards for their favorite deities. Those who opted for the Deluxe and Ultimate Founder’s Editions will find special Ascension Passes included in their bundles.

For competitive players, the latest build also introduced Ranked matches and the MOBA’s first competitive test season. To join the fray, players can either purchase a founder’s pack or request access through Steam. Or, you can hold off until SMITE 2 officially launches and goes free-to-play in early 2025.
