Old School RuneScape just dropped some massive news at this weekend’s Summer Summit 2024, and it’s enough to make even the most seasoned adventurer grab their rune scimitar in excitement. Among the biggest announcements? Official private servers are on the horizon, offering “members” a whole new way to experience Gielinor.

That’s right—private servers are coming to Old School RuneScape. Dubbed Project Zanaris, the new community servers will allow players to create and customize their very own OSRS worlds. Whether you want to tweak XP rates, disable certain skills, or even host custom events, the possibilities are endless.

“We’ve seen the community ask for more control over their experience, and Project Zanaris is our answer,” said a Jagex representative during the Summit. These custom servers, set to launch in 2025, promise a whole new level of freedom for both casual players and hardcore players alike.

Want to make every drop a double drop? Done. Fancy a world where PVP reigns supreme? You got it. Project Zanaris allows you to tweak a massive range of parameters, creating a custom Gielinor experience just for you and your friends.

Jagex also revealed a slew of upcoming content coming to the classic free-to-play MMORPG. Leagues V: Raging Echoes will make its grand return later this year, giving players a new challenge with unique relics and tasks to conquer.

For quest lovers, Gielinor’s lore expands with the epic two-part questline, Varlamore: The Rising Darkness and The Final Dawn. Unravel the mysteries surrounding the once-great city of Varlamore, navigate a sprawling new region, and face off against a nightmarish new boss: The Shadow Weaver!

On the technical side, players can also expect multiple client updates in between the big content drops, including plugin improvements, the long-awaited HD mode, and upgrades for the mobile version of the game.

Between Project Zanaris and the new quests, bosses, and leagues, 2024 is shaping up to be a huge year for Old School RuneScape.
