The gates of Hell swung open a little wider today when Diablo Immortal dropped its latest major content update, Crucible of Justice. The update is packed with new features, a continuation of the main storyline, and plenty of co-op chaos.

The heart of the update is the Crucible of Justice story arc, which picks up after players recovered the angelic sword El’druin. While you can’t wield this holy blade (sorry, no angelic hacking and slashing), it sets you on a perilous journey to contain the power of the shattered Worldstone. Part 1 of the Worldstone Quest is all about finding a way to keep that evil in check, and let’s be real—anything that’s leading to an eventual face-off with Diablo himself is worth getting excited about.

The real standout feature of this update, though, is the introduction of Vanguard, a new co-op horde mode that pits you and three friends against the swarming forces of Hell. The mode lets you choose from different difficulty tiers, with higher levels requiring players to take down a Helliquary Boss. The kicker? Vanguard also introduces a new progression system, offering skills that you can only unlock by playing this mode. It’s a clever incentive to keep battling through the waves of demons (as if we needed more reason to enjoy demon-slaying).

In typical Blizzard fashion, the update also brings some shiny new loot, including three new Legendary Gems. For those not keen on opening their wallets right away, there’s a new Gem Trial event that lets you try them out before you commit.

Speaking of events, Blizzard is doubling down with not one but two limited-time events. First up is the Festival of the Ancient Moon (September 13-27), which celebrates the mid-autumn festival with daily and weekly tasks for special rewards. Next, the Toll of Virtue event (September 11-25) challenges players with two sets of objectives—one set offers repeatable tasks for Champions’ Commendations, while the other is packed with Vanguard challenges for more loot and Battle Pass points.

Finally, for those who’ve hit level 55 or completed the Frozen Tundra quests, there are two new chapters of the Hero’s Journey to tackle, along with new Tales of Sanctuary stories.

With this update, Diablo Immortal continues to flesh out its world with meaningful content for solo players and co-op fans alike. Time to grab your gear and face the Crucible of Justice—just remember to save some of that excitement for Diablo himself.
